Privacy Policy

We believe you should understand exactly what happens to your data when you bank with Federal Credit West Union. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have — in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.

1. Who we are

Federal Credit West Union is a member-owned financial cooperative. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to Federal Credit West Union, and "you" refers to any member, prospective member or visitor who uses our website, our online banking dashboard or our services.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to operate a safe account and to meet our regulatory obligations. Depending on how you interact with us, that may include:

  • Account information — your name, date of birth, contact details, address, identification documents and the identity verification information you submit through our KYC process.
  • Financial information — your account number, transaction PIN, balances, transaction history, statements, card details and any supporting documents you provide when applying for a loan.
  • Technical information — your IP address, device and browser type, operating system, screen resolution, the pages you visit, the approximate time zone detected from your device, and diagnostic logs generated while you use our services.
  • Communication records — messages you send to our support team, including the content of any support ticket you raise from your dashboard.

We do not ask for, and you should never send us, your full card number, your online banking password or any one-time authentication code by email, telephone or chat. Our staff will never ask you for these.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • open, operate and maintain your account and process the transactions you instruct us to make;
  • verify your identity as required by law, and to protect your account from fraud, phishing and unauthorised access;
  • provide statements, receipts, confirmations and account notifications;
  • assess and service loan applications, and to report to the relevant credit and regulatory authorities where we are obliged to do so;
  • detect and prevent suspicious activity, including fraud and money laundering;
  • improve the security, reliability and usability of our platform, our website and our support services;
  • meet legal, regulatory and audit requirements, and to enforce our Terms and Conditions.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

Our website and dashboard use cookies and similar technologies for essential and analytical purposes. Essential cookies keep you signed in, protect against automated abuse, and remember preferences such as your language. Where we use analytics, we do so in a way that does not require identifying you personally.

You can restrict or remove cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling essential cookies will prevent parts of the dashboard from working correctly.

5. How we protect your information

Protecting your data is a standing priority. We encrypt data both in transit and at rest, apply multi-factor and device-recognition controls to account access, monitor systems continuously for suspicious activity, restrict access to your information to authorised personnel who need it, and keep audited backups. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we will notify you and the relevant authority without undue delay if a breach affects your information.

6. Who we share your information with

We share your information only where it is necessary and lawful, with:

  • Service providers who host our infrastructure, deliver email and messaging, process payments and provide identity verification. They act on our instructions and are contractually prohibited from using your information for their own purposes.
  • Financial institutions and payment networks where required to process a transfer you have instructed, or to comply with a lawful instruction or court order.
  • Regulators, law enforcement and tax authorities where we are legally obliged to disclose information, including in relation to anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism financing obligations.
  • Professional advisers and auditors where necessary for legal, tax or audit purposes, under strict confidentiality.

7. How long we keep your information

We keep records for as long as your account is open, and for a reasonable period afterwards in line with our regulatory record-keeping obligations. Where we no longer need information, we securely delete or anonymise it.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to request its correction, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to request deletion where we are not required to retain it. You may also withdraw consent for optional communications at any time.

You can exercise most of these rights yourself — for example, updating your contact details and address from the account settings section of your dashboard. For anything else, contact our member services team and we will respond within the time limits that apply to you.

9. Changes to this policy

We review this policy periodically and will publish any material change on this page. Where a change affects you significantly, we will notify you through your dashboard or by email before it takes effect. Continued use of our services after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.

10. Contact us

If you have any question about this policy, or about how we handle your information, please contact us:

  • Email: support@federalcreditwestunion.online
  • Post: Federal Credit West Union, 214 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, North Carolina 28202
